A solar-powered airplane finished crossing the United States on Saturday, landing in New York City after flying over the Statue of Liberty during its historic bid to circle the globe, the project team said. The spindly, single-seat experimental aircraft, dubbed Solar Impulse 2, arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport at about 4 a.m. local time after it took off about five hours beforehand at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Pennsylvania, the team reported on the airplane's website. The Chinese drone-maker DJI has unveiled a handheld device that integrates a video camera and a stabilisation gimbal. The Osmo captures footage at up to 4K - four times the detail of 1080p high definition - to deliver the kind of shake-free footage that has become associated with drones.
At £549 it may be beyond the budget of casual videomakers, but the company believes it has spotted a gap in the market - although other companies sell gimbals for GoPros and other action cameras, they can be fiddly to set up and sometimes require post-processing of the resulting video to make it truly smooth.
