Solar plane lands in New York City

A solar-powered airplane finished crossing the United States on Saturday, landing in New York City after flying over the Statue of Liberty during its historic bid to circle the globe, the project team said.  The spindly, single-seat experimental aircraft, dubbed Solar Impulse 2, arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport at about 4 a.m. local time after it took off about five hours beforehand at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Pennsylvania, the team reported on the airplane's website.  Such a pleasure to land in New York! A new stronger flu vaccine will be introduced in Australia in 2016

The vaccine will cover four flu strains, instead of the usual three, including two influenza B strains.  There were 90,000 cases of flu in Australia during their 2015 winter - 25,000 more than the previous year.  The UK's vaccine for adults protects against three strains, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).  It sets out which strains of the virus should be included in flu vaccines in advance of the season for the condition. which in the northern hemisphere happens each February.  During Australia's recent winter, most of the flu cases were thought to have been caused by circulating influenza B strains.  As a result, the new vaccine will include both the Brisbane and Phuket B strains of the flu virus. The new study concluded that women's sexualities are more complex than men's

Researchers asked 345 women about their sexual preferences and compared these with their arousal levels when shown videos of attractive men and women.  They found 28% of straight women were mostly aroused by their preferred sex, compared with 68% of gay women.  The University of Essex study concluded that no woman is "totally straight".Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, measured the arousal of women using eye tracking devices and direct measures of physiological sexual response.  Previous studies had already suggested that straight women were aroused by both sexes when tested, but researchers had never looked at whether the same was true for gay women. Dr Rieger said the study's conclusion that women who identified as being completely gay were much more aroused by their preferred sex was "amazing".  He said their sexual arousal patterns were much more similar to men, whose responses tend to very accurately mirror their stated sexual prefere...

The World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed two new cases of Ebola in Guinea

One case was found in the capital Conakry and the other in Forecariah, a town in western Guinea. The week before last was the first week that the three worst-affected countries - Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia - had seen no new infections. The virus has killed more than 11,000 people in nearly two years. The case in Forecariah appeared to be linked to a previously known chain of infection, while the one in Conakry seemed to be new, authorities in Guinea said. "On the bumpy road we keep talking about - the high risk of recurrence - once again we are navigating a few bumps," said WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris on Friday. "Of course we didn't want it, but we did expect it. Guinea hadn't got  to the stage where we were looking at 42 days". A country is considered to be Ebola-free after 42 days without a new case.
