A solar-powered airplane finished crossing the United States on Saturday, landing in New York City after flying over the Statue of Liberty during its historic bid to circle the globe, the project team said. The spindly, single-seat experimental aircraft, dubbed Solar Impulse 2, arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport at about 4 a.m. local time after it took off about five hours beforehand at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Pennsylvania, the team reported on the airplane's website. The first moving images of a mysterious whale species has been released by a team of international scientists
Omura whale Whale researchers have discovered a population of Omura's whales living near Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It's the first time the whales have been seen alive in photos or video. Dr. Salvatore Cerchio from the New England Aquarium and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution led the study. So little is known about the Omura's that scientists don't know how many exist in the wild. The study, looks at the Omura's techniques for finding food, the sounds they make and their preferred habitat in the shallow coastal waters of Madagascar, an island in the western Indian Ocean."Over the years, there have been a small handful of possible sightings of Omura's whales, but nothing that was confirmed," says Dr. Cerchio.
